Thinking of transferring fostering agency?

Here at Fosterplus Scotland, we’re fully equipped to take great care of our foster families and their children. With almost 30 years of experience in building successful foster homes, you’ll be in safe hands when you transfer to us.

Transferring fostering agencies may seem like a daunting process, but don’t worry—we use a streamlined process which aims to have your family settled in within 3 months.

You might be ready to transfer to a new fostering agency if…

  • You aren’t receiving enough payment for the amazing work you do
  • You and your foster children need more support
  • You’re missing out on a sense of fostering community
  • You waiting long time between foster care placements
  • You aren’t getting great quality referrals which take the needs of you and the children into account

Why should I join an Independent Fostering Agency?

If you’re currently fostering with your Local Authority, you have a lot to gain by joining an Independent Fostering Agency:

  • As an IFA, we’re able to offer you a very generous fostering allowance which goes above and beyond what most Local Authorities can offer to their foster carers.
  • We understand just how important it is to support our foster carers in all areas of their life, so we invest into our huge range of support services.

What we can do for you at Fosterplus Scotland

We go above and beyond to support our foster carers, with services including:

  • Regular in-person support groups for our foster carers
  • Free fun-filled family events for our fostering families
  • Your own dedicated supervising social worker
  • A 24/7 out-of-hours support line
  • Countless training opportunities to boost your skills
  • Access to specialist support from therapists and educational experts
  • Enjoy the benefits of our exclusive discount platform

Transferring is easy…

  • You can transfer if you are fostering with either your Local Authority or an Independent Fostering Agency
  • You can transfer if you currently have a child in placement, and they’ll stay with you throughout the process
  • You don’t have to resign from your current fostering provider to transfer to Fosterplus

4 Simple steps to transferring

Transferring to a new fostering provider is very similar to the process of becoming approved as a foster parent. From beginning to end, we’ll aim to have you as a member of our team within 12 weeks.  Let’s breakdown the transfer protocol for foster carers into four easy steps:

Step 1:

You’ll start by making an enquiry with our team, who’ll tell you all there is to know about being a Fosterplus foster carer and will help you to get started on your journey.

Step 2:

Next you’ll take part in a home visit with a member of our team. They’ll tell you all about what we can offer you as an experienced foster carer. This is also a great chance to go in depth with any questions you may have, and to decide if transferring is right for you and your foster family.

Step 3:

During the application and assessment stage, you’ll be required to inform your current fostering provider of your intent to transfer. You’ll then go through the familiar process of enjoying friendly visits from one of our assessing social workers who will create a fast-tracked ‘Form F’ assessment with you.

If you’re currently caring for a child or young person, you’ll also attend a Transfer Protocol Meeting during this stage. This is a meeting which brings together your child’s local authority and our team, including your assessing social worker. During this meeting we’ll make sure that transferring is in the best interests of your foster child and will decide how to make the transition as smooth as possible.

Step 4:

The final stage to completing your fostering transfer is your panel meeting and approval, neither of which will be new to you— you’re a pro at this point! You’ll have your assessing social worker by your side during the meeting, and they’ll support you as a decision is made and sent off to our Agency Decision Maker for approval. After that, you’ll be a member of the Fosterplus Scotland team!

You are required to have a spare bedroom that’s always available to a foster child. The spare room cannot be shared, and must be big enough to fit a single bed, a wardrobe and a chest of drawers.

To be approved as a foster carer in the UK, you must be a British citizen or have the legal right to remain in the UK without restrictions that would prevent fostering.

The following questions are intended to help us understand your experience with children. Please note that prior experience is not required to become a foster carer, as full training will be provided.
